Lynnhaven River NOW will hold a Buffer Plant Sale & Fall Fest on Saturday, November 6, 2010, from 10 am – 2 pm at the Lynnhaven River NOW office and adjacent park area at 1608 Pleasure House Road, Ste 108, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.

This local Bayside event will focus specifically on providing hard-to-find native buffer plants ideal for forming protective buffers along our Lynnhaven waterways.  Buffer gardens help to reduce pollutants in stormwater run-off that might otherwise find their way into the beautiful Lynnhaven River.

Among the many plants being offered at the plant sale are two featured species, Beautyberry and Winterberry holly, both of which are known for their brightly colored berries and late season texture. Plants are being provided by Virginia Beach’s own London Bridge Greenhouse, Wild Woods Farm and Lillie Gilbert of Wild River Outfitters.

Along with the plant sale, there will be a Rain Barrel Workshop at 10:30 am at which one can build a rain barrel to take home that day.(Advanced registration is required for this workshop. Space is limited.)

Bay Lake Pines Private School will be hosting a bake sale fundraiser at the Fest to raise money to plant a buffer garden at their school. Lynnhaven River NOW tee-shirts, fleece vests, water bottles and oyster knives will be available for purchase, as well as, rain barrels and composters, courtesy of Mike’s Rain Barrels.

Local authors Lillie Gilbert and Vickie Shufer will be available to autograph books on the Bayside area and Virginia Beach history.  From 1 – 2 PM, you can enjoy the acoustic renditions of local performing artist, Rick Kuhns.  Virginia Beach Master Gardener Water and Tree Stewards will be available to answer plant questions or concerns. Enjoy additional discounts at other local vendors, such as Wild Flower Jewelry.

Bake sale proceeds will benefit the Bay Lake Pines Buffer Garden project, while other proceeds will support Lynnhaven River NOW education programs.

To register for the Rain Barrel workshop, call 757-962-5398 or email office@lynnhaven2007.com. Cost is $60 in advance.
