47th Annual Ocean View Art Show Almost Here

Published: September 25, 2009

The painters are putting the last touches on their paintings, jewelers are setting the final stones, photographers are developing that one great print, and the potter's wheel is spinning non-stop.  Chesapeake Bay Art Association’s 47th Annual Ocean View Art Show is almost here.  Artists will be coming from all around the Mid-Atlantic States to show and sell their finest works on October 10 & 11, 2009. Show times are from 10 AM to 5 PM both Saturday and Sunday, at Norfolk’s Ocean View Beach Park.

Artists are not the only people getting ready for the weekend.  Symphonic Artistry will be performing on the stage, starting at noon Saturday, followed by Amy Ferebee and friends.  Sunday afternoon the sounds of Kenton Coty and Southern Impact will fill the park.  The Calendar Girls will be greeting visitors on Saturday and signing their beautiful calendars for everyone, and Norfolk's Sheriff's Department will also be on hand Saturday doing "Kidprinting" from 11AM to 2PM.

Getting hungry from browsing through the art work and enjoying the entertainment?  Don't worry; several food vendors will be set up selling everything from nuts to funnel cakes to good local veggies.  Bring the family and enjoy the nice fall days on the rolling grassy lawns of the Ocean View Beach Park.  The park is located at 100 W. Ocean View Avenue, at the end of Granby Street, in Norfolk, VA.  Norfolk natives will remember this as the site of the old amusement park, and the famous roller coaster - featured in the movies "Rollercoaster" and "Death of Ocean View Park".

Proceeds from the Art Show will benefit the John B. Tenney Memorial Art Scholarship Fund.  Each year the scholarship is awarded to one or more high school art students. John B. Tenney started this fund in the early 1960s by auctioning off one of his paintings and the Chesapeake Bay Art Association has continued the tradition every year since at the Art Show.  To aid the fund, a number of local merchants have donated door prized to be raffled off at the Art Show.  Among the prizes are several golf packages, diners at local restaurants, gym memberships, and time at a favorite Spa!

Visit theOcean View Beach Park on October 10 & 11.  Bring the family and enjoy a nice weekend by the Chesapeake Bay.
