2014 Virginia Beach Tourism Statistics

2014 was another record-setting year for Virginia Beach tourism. In 2014, visitors to the city generated $115 million in state and city taxes in 2014, an increase of 6.9 percent. Visitor spending in 2014 reached a record high of $1.4 billion, a 4.9 percent increase from the previous year.

The tourism industry directly supported 12,568 jobs, up 2.5 percent from 2013 and brought in $244 million in salaries, up 4.5 percent from 2013. Approximately 6 million overnight visitors and 7.2 million day-trippers made trips to Virginia Beach in 2014.

The 2015 tourism season is expected to be strong as well. Lodging sales for the 2015 summer season totaled $187.9 million, up 4.1 percent from 2014 sales. Restaurant sales in summer 2015 were $335 million, up 5.1 percent from the previous season.
