Virginia Beach’s VBgov.com Wins First Place in 2009 Best of the Web Competition

Published: September 2, 2009

The official Web site for the City of Virginia Beach, VBgov.com, has been named the first place winner in the 2009 Best of the Web competition (among city Web portals).

For the past 12 years, the Center for Digital Government has been recognizing the top U.S. state, county, and city government Web portals for their advances in digital solutions and communication with citizens, government communities and businesses. The awards are judged by a panel of experts on a wide range of categories, including site accessibility, innovation, cost-savings, ease of use, and exceptional service to the public.

Gwen Cowart, director of the Virginia Beach Department of Communications and Information Technology (ComIT), said, "I’m very proud that the city’s Web site has won this year’s Best of the Web competition. This honor is a testament to the quality work of our city employees and leadership’s commitment to deliver digital solutions that benefit our citizens and visitors by making information and services easily accessible at any time." VBgov.com has been a top 10 finalist in the Best of the Web competition for the last two years, but this is the first year it has won the first place spot.
